Wife Beating Not Allowed In Islam. But Bible Preach Wife Should be Killed Or Burn With Fire!
Wife beating anytime and for any reason is never allowed in Islam.
There is however a condition in Noble Verse 4:34 where Allah Almighty seems to allow the husband to “beat” his wife, and that is after he gives her two warnings to stop showing ill-conduct and disloyalty toward him.
There is however a disagreement with some Muslim scholars on the interpretation of the word “beat” in the Noble Verse, because it could literally mean “hit” or “leave”.
[Yusufali 4:34] Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband’s) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For Allah is Most High, great (above you all).
First of all, I do not agree with the English translators of the Noble Quran to add the word “(lightly)” in between parenthesis like if they were ashamed of their own Holy Book! Second, if someone really honestly wants to understand the Noble Quran, then he/she must not just only read the Noble Verses from it, but also study the history of each verse because each verse in the Noble Quran came for a purpose.
It is important to know that Allah Almighty clearly prohibits for Muslim men to harm their wives:
“…Do not retain them (i.e., your wives) to harm them…(The Noble Quran, 2:231)”
“If a wife fears cruelty or desertion on her husband’s part, there is no blame on them if they arrange an amicable settlement between themselves; and such settlement is best; even though men’s souls are swayed by greed. But if ye do good and practise self-restraint, God is well-acquainted with all that ye do. (The Noble Quran, 4:128)“
So brutally beating the wives and causing bruises and damages to their bodies is clearly prohibited in Islam. But Allah Almighty also on the other hand, didn’t say to gently tap (i.e., “(lightly)”) them when it’s time to physically punish them as some Muslim scholars like to make it appear.
No, a Muslim man has to be moderate in his beating by sending the clear message to the disloyal wife, and at the same time by keeping her out of harm’s way.
In verse 228 of al-Baqarah Allah says that women also have rights as men have but men are a degree above women. In this verse it is again stated that men are the guardians of women as He has made the male sex excel over the female sex. This is the will of an all-wise and almighty Lord.
The equality before law should not be confused with the equality of the complex of subjective and original qualities. Even the messengers and prophets of Allah are not equal in status due to their innate and endowed essence. “We have made some of these messengers to excel others”, says the almighty , Allah in verse 253 of al-Baqarah.
Qanitatun means devoted to Allah, therefore, a woman who obeys Allah must accept His command and acknowledge her duties she has to perform to please her husband who spends of his wealth to provide for her. She must also watch over his property and his interests, attend to his needs, and above all guard her chastity.
In case a perverse woman (wife) refuses to mend her ways (very common among the low-bred and ignorant women of easy virtue) then the husband can admonish her, and even stop sleeping with her, but if the corrective measures fail to refine her, he can take harsher steps to make her qanitatun (devoted and obedient to Allah).
To understand the true purport of this verse, it is essential to keep in mind:
verse 21 of al-Rum. “Another of His signs is that He created out of you mates of your own kind so that you may find repose in them, and has instilled (ordained) love and kindness between you. Verily there are signs in this for those who reflect.”
In many verses it has been ordained to, treat women with kindness and to speak to them gently.
The Holy Prophet said:
“Never beat Allah’s handmaidens.”
“The best of you is he who is kind to his wife.”
There is not a single event of wife-beating or child-abuse in the lives of the Holy Prophet, his immediate kindred, and his companion.
Fala tabghu alayhinna is a warning to the unscrupulous husbands not to seek an excuse for resorting to the conditional provision allowed to discipline the depraved women only.
How can a Muslim beat his wife when he believe that :
Also, read the “What was the purpose of the Noble Verse 4:34-35 above? Why is there a wife beating law in the Noble Quran?” There is also a law in Islam prohibiting the striking on the face for any reason. So the beating in Noble Verses 4:34-35 clearly must not include above the shoulders level.
I just don’t want Allah Almighty’s Holy Words to be compromised by any of the Western social and cultural pressures. What we might view as right today may not necessarily be right in the sight of Allah Almighty, and what we might view as wrong, also may not be wrong in the sight of Allah Almighty.
TURNING THE TABLE
Having cleared up the misconception about this wife-beating lets us now start turning the table by looking at the status of woman including wife from Biblical perspective.
KILL her if she curse her father or mother!
Lev 20:9 KJV For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.
You must kill those who worship another god.
Kill any friends or family that worship a god that is different than your own.
Exo 22:20 NIV “Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the LORD must be destroyed.
Deu 13:12-16 NIV If you hear it said about one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you to live in (13) that troublemakers have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods you have not known), (14) then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you, (15) you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. You must destroy it completely, both its people and its livestock. (16) You are to gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely BURN the town and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town is to remain a ruin forever, never to be rebuilt,
Lev 20:14 NIV “‘If a man marries both a woman and her mother, it is wicked. Both he and they must be burned in the fire, so that no wickedness will be among you.
Joshua 7:15 NIV Whoever is caught with the devoted things shall be destroyed by fire, along with all that belongs to him. He has violated the covenant of the LORD and has done an outrageous thing in Israel!'”

The Concept of Beating in the Bible:
“Young people take pride in their strength, but the gray hairs of wisdom are even more beautiful. A severe beating can knock all of the evil out of you! (From the Contemporary English Version (CEV) Bible, Proverbs 20:29-30)“
“Hatred stirs up trouble; love overlooks the wrongs that others do. If you have good sense, it will show when you speak. But if you are stupid, you will be beaten with a stick. If you have good sense, you will learn all you can, but foolish talk will soon destroy you. (From the Contemporary English Version (CEV) Bible, Proverbs 10:12-14)“
“A curse you don’t deserve will take wings and fly away like a sparrow or a swallow. Horses and donkeys must be beaten and bridled— and so must fools. Don’t make a fool of yourself by answering a fool. (From the Contemporary English Version (CEV) Bible, Proverbs 26:2-4)“
Beating here is open for anyone who is deemed to have evil in them, and/or is acting stupid and is a fool. The Bible doesn’t object to the concepts of beating and disciplining of any individual who is in the wrong, and who is deemed to be deserving to it.
Parables about Beating:
“Athletes work hard to win a crown that cannot last, but we do it for a crown that will last forever. I don’t run without a goal. And I don’t box by beating my fists in the air. I keep my body under control and make it my slave, so I won’t lose out after telling the good news to others. (From the Contemporary English Version (CEV) Bible, 1 Corinthians 9:25-27)“
“If that happens, the master will come on a day and at a time when the servant least expects him. That servant will then be punished and thrown out with the servants who cannot be trusted. If servants are not ready or willing to do what their master wants them to do, they will be beaten hard. But servants who don’t know what their master wants them to do will not be beaten so hard for doing wrong. If God has been generous with you, he will expect you to serve him well. But if he has been more than generous, he will expect you to serve him even better. (From the Contemporary English Version (CEV) Bible, Luke 12:46-48)“
Even though these are parables, but notice that beating was a norm in the society. Yet, never was it directly condemned, especially on wives!. Not only that, but we find the beatings being ok even in parables in the Bible.
